Meet 2019 Convention Guest Speaker – Victor Hogstrom – President & CEO – KPTS-TV

A public television veteran of more than 25 years, Victor Hogstrom has instigated impressive positive changes at every station he has managed over the course of his career. Mr. Hogstrom finds his success in problem solving through a deep commitment to entrepreneurial innovations, efficient internal operations, and remarkable fundraising. His most recent success was in the management of Kansas City-based public television station KCPT.

Holding the title of President and CEO of KCPT, Victor Hogstrom was instrumental in reversing the fortunes of the venerable station through a number of intelligent initiatives involving cost cutting and never-before-tried marketing efforts. From involving corporate sponsors in a more sophisticated and mutually beneficial relationship to substantially decreasing the amount of spending on internal business procedures, Mr. Hogstrom was highly instrumental in reducing KCPT’s debt from $7 million to $600,000 and brought the station out of the red for the first time in four years. Most importantly, during this impressive turnaround Hogstrom never had to resort to staff lay-offs.

In addition to his impressive efforts at KCPT, Victor Hogstrom has achieved similar results at all of his previous stations. From the start of his career as General Manager of WPTI-TV in Rockford, IL, to his role as President and General Manager of KIXE-TV in Redding, CA, and, later, to his position as President and CEO of WTCI-TV in Chattanooga, TN, he has improved revenues and decreased costs while maximizing each station’s potential and service.

In addition to his business savvy, Victor Hogstrom is deeply involved in the development of his community. From his participation in the Rotary International, where he is a Paul Harris Fellow, to his frequent contributions to the Salvation Army and various Kansas City Shelters, Mr. Hogstrom has shown a commitment to enriching people’s lives through public television, as well as public kindness.
